I started drafting logo designs and shapes that I could use as my brand logo. I also included ornamentation elements that I could include to make the logo unique and to develop a brand image. These were elements such as using a cocoa bean as the topper for the 'i' and a swirl to underline the name to make it stand out.
I then scanned these in so that I could edit and colour the cocoa bean and use the underline swirl.
Previously I had made this type by inking it with a dip pen and using brush. I decided to choose the second font as I though this held the high market image that I want my bar to have and was playful, easy to read and is appealing to all audiences.
I decided to choose the circle shaped logo as my chocolate bars will be rectangular and the description box will be aswell. Therefore decided that the circle logo would create a nice contrast within the bar. Using Photoshop I created a circle using the circle tool and copied the type into the circle. I then added the cocoa bean graphic to the 'i', as seen below.
Firstly, i tested the black writing on a white background and decided that this did not stand out enough and did not look like a high market logo. Therefore I turned the name into white and placed it against a dark brown background as thought this represented chocolate which links to the product.
However I still was not fully content with the look of the brand logo as found it boring and not eye-catching. Therefore I chose a background of melted chocolate and lowered the opacity of it so that you could read the writing clearly. I then added a soft gradient to make the bottom half of the logo bolder with the picture and it gradually fades out to the top.
Here is the logo in Photoshop after I had added the gradients and changed the opacity to one I liked and felt was effective in the design.
Below is the final piece of my brand logo. I will be using this on all 3 of my bars as they are by the same company.
